The coffee table has become a centerpiece for many living rooms, providing a functional space that adds to the overall aesthetics of the home. It’s the perfect place to gather around with friends, family and guests and it can be used for relaxation or even as an extended workspace.

In addition, adding décor to your coffee table such as flowers, art, books and plants can help tie together the design scheme of your home while also creating a conversational focal point.

Decorating a Coffee Table- Essential Items

While I was having company over, I noticed that my living area just didn’t seem to have enough fun or pop to it. I enjoy entertaining and having guests over for all occasions. It took a while, but then realized that my center piece, my coffee table was the problem. It’s the area nearest you and holds everything you need to keep your hands free.

So, I cleared everything off and made it a piece that now gets compliments overtime someone steps in the room. Let me share with you how you too, can turn your everyday area into a place that shows off your style. After all there is a science to your living space.

The key to decorating a coffee table is layering and mixing styles. Try incorporating books, decorative boxes for storage, vases with flowers or plants, candles and trays to create an inviting display. Add in throw pillows and blankets for a cozy feel. Here are some items that can be easily found to put the “living” in your living room.

Area rugs are one of the main focal points in decorating your coffee table. Look for one that complements the space without clashing with the style of your sofa or other furniture pieces. Choose a rug that’s soft and easy-to-clean for fuss-free maintenance.

Make sure the rug brings out the noticeable highlights in the room, your couch is one of those items. Next would be an accent wall, these two items would be your go to.

Also think about something manageable, easy to clean and hard to stain. Since, we want to do more time enjoying our space then cleaning it.

2. Centerpiece

A center piece on a coffee table is great for pulling together the look of a living room space. Try styling with succulents, small sculptures, trays or vases. This will also be useful as an extra surface to rest items such as drinks, snacks, and books! Accent pieces like these can bring color and texture into your home while adding functionality at the same time.

This is your opportunity to talk express your like with some style. Think of colors, nice bold colors, something that will set itself apart but still coordinate.  Son, you got to coordinate.

Bowls, vases, plus art, these can be found anywhere.

Now we always this about symmetry, always needing two of something. But odd numbers are the best, that what stands out.

Maybe two vases and one bowl, think like that.

Each piece should stand apart from the other, how else are you going to o make it noticeable.

You want the area to speak when nobody is talking. Think of it as a functional artistic piece.

3. Books & Magazines

Books & magazines on your coffee table are both stylish and practical elements in your home decorating scheme – they make great conversation starters when hosting gatherings too! Arrange them in stacks or opt for keeping some lying flat – whatever suits you best!

4. Lighting Options add to mood

Choose from tall lamps, fairy lights, string lights, or even candles – these features mix well with any aesthetic! Soft lighting options such as stringed lights hung around the corners of your coffee table can help intimate set the mood – particularly if you’re aiming for a relaxing atmosphere for family game nights!

With that said lighting can be a tricky area when decorating your coffee table. Using lighting with too many wires or power cord connections can cause a bad experience. Nothing is more irritating that having to jump or move around cords when moving around a table.

Never-the-less, using battery operated lighting can be too dim and seem almost useless for the attempted design. So, keep these factors in mind when looking for lighting to add to your tables area.

One of my go-to favorites is candles.

Candles are not only good for dim mood lighting, but they offer great scents to the area. I’m such a fan of larger three wick candles and they burn longer and add that great smell. Also opposed to using diffusers I don’t have to worry about plugs or electricity.

5. Candles & Diffusers

Fragranced candles & oil diffusers can help tie together the look of your area whilst filling it with pleasant aromas in the process. For an airy scent, choose fragrances such as floral or woody scents – just remember to keep them out of reach of pets & children if you have any in your household!

6 Trays Keep Your Table Organized

Trays are multi-purposeful items perfect for organizing any space such as bathrooms counters, kitchen islands and all sorts of tabletops/coffee tables! Aside from using it store small Knick knacks like keys wallets etc., use them to corral books and magazines, candles besides other things atop your coffee table for added convenience whenever needed!

Keep your coffee table clean.  A cluttered coffee table just make for an i enjoyable area. If people must move things or there not enough room, it’s a bad thing. Rule 1 is this is a functional item; its main purpose is to free up your hands.

Nothing is more displeasing than a cluttered almost junky coffee table.  It not only makes you look messy and disorganized, but its uncomfortable for your guests. Make sure that your coffee table has more than enough space to set things down on for any occasion.

7. Natural Elements Bring Life to Your Table

Natural elements featuring certified organic materials can offer a subtle yet attractive addition to tastefully complete any space stylistically speaking – this includes shells, driftwood branches and pebbles that fit into empty spaces on top smooth surfaces while giving everything some signature character all its own!

That is a whole other area for design. You can keep it clean as that has a good look and feel to it. Although, I like to add items that can be useful and show some character.

I personally enjoy small baskets. Reason of course is they can look good and hole items. I chose this because I don’t have any shelves, so this was perfect way to shade and display items.
