The Money Tree! Ching! Ching! Ching!

The Money Tree is a great looking plant with its thick trunk and leafy bottom. It is also a very friendly plant to those who lack a green thumb. and with it’s smaller size great for any area of the house even your coffee table.

Where did this plant with a great Money Tree jingle come from?

The story goes, One day a poor man decided to take this plant home to care for. He did so well with braiding the trunk, that people were interested in buying. So, the poor man made money from selling the seeds of this plant.

The Money Tree definitely doesn’t grow dollars for leaves, I wish. But its lore comes from brining good luck to those who take care of it. lets go thru where you can get this and how you can easily take care of this plant.

Where do I get a Money Tree?

You can easily go to your local to your local garden center or farmers market. I literally just ordered mine, yup right if the internet. It came to the house in good condition, because that was my first thought too. The packaging was good and the leaves were well maintained.

If you are going to order online I would recommend that you check your seller to see where you plant is coming from. Make sure your money tree is shipped from somewhere close as possible to you. That way its less stress on the plant. Then look to see how your item will be packaged, this will eliminate some possible headaches.

Taking care of your Money tree is very simple.

Lighting

Your plant, like all plants is going to want as much natural light as you can give it. This being an indoor plant it can survive without having to go outside. Find you a nice area in the home that has the most natural light would be ideal. If not it’s ok, the plants are pretty resilient.

I chose to have mine in an area where i wont forget about it, so I have it right on my coffee table. It not only looks nice, but keeps me engaged and reminds me to attend to its needs.

Water

like any plant Mr. Ching! Ching!, needs to be watered. I have been watering my plant about once a week, right around the time to clean off my coffee table. I don’t water it that much since I’m watering once a week.

I’ve read in some areas that you can even go up to two weeks without watering. This is a good thing for some of us who may be more forgetful or like to travel. That was my one of my main reasons for choosing this type of plant, that and the name.

Your going to check the soil, by placing you hand over the top layer. Then depending on how dry the top soil is will determine if the plane needs watering. You’ll want to make sure that its dry enough not damp. the top layer should me dry but also going to to about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way.

After a few months and the area you have your plant you should have a good routine when you know when to water. You don’t want to underwater so keep tabs. Also you don’t want to over water, then you get root rot and other things can happen.

To help from over watering make sure to get a planter with a drain hole and something under to let the water drain out. You want to water enough were water comes out the bottom hole, keeps you from underwatering.

Replanting

If you’re doing a good job you will end up getting to this point. The time your Money Tree will need to be re-potted. Now all your doing is putting your plant in a bigger pot. This is to allow your tree to grow bigger and let the roots spread out more.

Now there is plenty of tutorials that cover how to re-pot your plant. So no need to go into that yet.

Below is a short tutorial on how to do this incase you need.

Braiding the Trunks

This part is what make this mini leafy giant look fresh. I didn’t have any idea how to do it at the time, so i didn’t. Looking back on it, its definitely something that I think i should have done. Because the roots are braided, it gives off a awesome almost jungle type vibe to your area.

The good thing is, anyone can just go buy some larger ones that have already been trained to grow in that manner and skip the work. Keep in mind this is only for the easy indoor plant type. So there isn’t going to be any performing surgery on the plant stuff in this post.

But, if that is the way you want it to look you can have it that way.

Watch The Money Grow

At this point you got all you need to know to have the basics and keep a perfectly healthy money tree in your home. All you need to do now is just keep up the small routine and your money will grow and hopefully bring you good luck and fortune.
